Tim Walker - A story Teller
The title says it all. Tim Walker is one of the best photographers at the moment who is able to tell a fairy tale as if it were true. Before I went to London College of Style I didn't know the name Tim Walker. Though without realizing I saw a lot of his pictures before in magazines and on the internet. The college took us to see his exhibition in Somerset House, London. I was so amased and excited that the next day I bought his book on amazon.com. I want to be able to look at his amazing, inspiring pictures over and over again. Looking at every detail and trying to see how every photograph he makes is pure magic.
The reason why his fairy tales look so real is because everything in the picture is real. The wasps, the crocodile, the big skeleton and the huge disobedient doll. Every picture is thought through and the scene is set as he intended to. Although like most artists, he still likes the unexpected picture the most. A non posing model with a natural look, a person on the set going in the picture at the wrong time.
His pictures are inspired by his dreams. Still looking at life through a small boy's eyes. I think that is something we all should do more? Don't you?
In Somerset House you will see a range of different fairy tales, a full story reduced to a close up, from plane crashes to UFO's; from perfectly detailed photographs to moving images and houte couture pictures. Tim Walker took close-ups from celebrities such as John Cleese, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Helena Bonham Carter.
If you love him like I do, then you will definitely want to buy his book.
